Recipe and ingredient costing software for hospitality businesses
When Covid-19 hit Ireland, my parents ran a catering business and operated multiple cafés. Like many others, they were hit hard by intermittent closures and looked for ways to streamline the business and cut costs.
Ingredients are a significant share of any hospitality business’s expenses. My parents were spending hours each week creating ingredient lists, reviewing price changes (which happened all the time), and updating recipes, using a mix of spreadsheets and paper.
They asked if I could build something to help, so I started working on Prepsheets. I built the first MVP over the summer of 2020, and within six months of using it, they had saved over €100,000 in ingredient costs.
When my parents showed it to friends in the industry, they wanted to use it too. Over my gap year, I kept developing the platform while my parents sold it to other businesses.
I stepped away in August 2021 to focus on my studies, but my parents still run the business. Now over 50 businesses use the platform.
